The Balvenie French Oak is a dynamic single malt that undergoes a unique finishing process in casks previously used to age wine from the French Charentes vineyards.
Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine crafted from unfermented grape juice and enriched with Cognac eau-de-vie, is traditionally produced in this region. Pineau can also be found as a homemade creation in the neighboring Deux-Sèvres and Vendée departments.
The idea to explore these French Oak casks was suggested by Lorne Cousin, the Balvenie USA brand ambassador, after a trip to the region with his family, during which he fondly remembered sipping an aperitif.
This innovative expression from The Balvenie is the first to incorporate French Oak finishing. Pineau, with its production and flavor characteristics similar to Cognac, presents an opportunity to leverage the rising popularity of this flavor profile and its premium qualities.
Nose: A beautifully balanced aroma emerges, featuring light floral notes of lotus and geranium flowers that gracefully intermingle with hints of fresh meadow grass and the peeling of apple skin.
Taste: Upon sipping, an invigorating burst of flavor takes center stage, with tangy lemon rind and grapefruit meeting the delicate, subtle sweetness of glazed fruits. A touch of spice from root ginger adds complexity to the palate.
Finish: The finish is refreshingly concise, leaving a lasting impression of this distinctive single malt.
