Arran 25 Year Old Single Malt

The Isle of Arran Distillery was established in 1995 at Lochranza, a perfect location for whisky production with pure soft water, fresh sea air, and an ideal island climate. Arran has a rich whisky history, once home to more than 50 distilleries in the 19th century, with its malt whisky celebrated as among Scotland’s finest.

The long-awaited Arran 25 Year Old was released to celebrate 25 years of craftsmanship. Matured in a combination of 35% ex-sherry and 65% ex-bourbon casks, followed by further maturation in first-fill and refill sherry hogsheads, this exceptional single malt is bottled at 46% ABV — showcasing two and a half decades of Arran’s whisky heritage.

The Arran Barrel Bonfire marks the end of an important chapter in Arran’s history. This release represents the final peated whisky ever produced under the Arran name. Since these casks were filled, no further peated spirit has been made at Lochranza Distillery.

Peated spirit production at Lochranza officially came to an end in 2016, with all future peated whisky production for Isle of Arran Distillers moving to their sister distillery, Lagg Distillery, located in the south of the island.

From now on, all peated expressions from Isle of Arran Distillers will be released under the Lagg or Machrie Moor names, making the Arran Barrel Bonfire a unique and historic farewell to Arran’s peated whisky era.

Arran Single Malt cask strength expression is initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels before being transferred to smaller 125-liter Quarter casks made from American oak. This technique enhances maturation by increasing contact with the oak, producing a full-bodied whisky with rich vanilla sweetness and bold peppery spice. Bottled at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or artificial coloring, it harkens back to the tradition of small casks used in the Arran whisky trade of the 18th and 19th centuries.
